Urban open space enhances the quality of life in urban areas and supports socialization, recreation, and healthy lifestyles. Currently, open space planning in China is in its initial stages, with no clear definition or standards in national regulations. Developed countries, however, have a long history of promulgating open space planning standards. This paper analyzes the latest standards from twelve representative cities in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, etc., suggesting China incorporate open space planning into its existing system. It proposes adopting indicators like open space classification, minimal size, accessibility, per capita standards, and requirements for facilities and activities, tailored to China’s reality.
